GEO test: will AI answers cite your website?
Measures the signals ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot and Google AI Overviews use to find, trust and cite your site.
What does the GEO test measure?
GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) is optimizing content so AI search engines cite it in their answers. The AI readiness test checks whether a page can be read; the GEO test measures the trust signals assistants weigh when choosing a source: who you are, where your data comes from, author and date information, freshness, search bot access and answer format.
Entity and brand
Organization schema, logo, sameAs profiles, knowledge-graph sources, brand consistency, about/contact page and contact details.
Evidence and data
Sentences with numeric data, outbound source links (especially official and academic), quotes, tables and content depth.
Author and trust
Author information, Person schema, publish/update dates, privacy/terms/contact pages and HTTPS.
Freshness
Last update date, sitemap lastmod values and the current year on the page.
AI discovery
Access for OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot and Bingbot; llms.txt, sitemap, Markdown version and snippet restrictions.
Answer format
Question headings, FAQ/HowTo schema, a short summary at the top, lists and section structure.
How is the score calculated?
The total is a weighted average of the layers below. Checks within each layer are scored on their own; a critical issue can cap the total.
| Layer | Weight | Measures |
|---|---|---|
| Entity and brand | %20 | Who you are |
| Evidence and data | %20 | Quotable facts |
| Author and trust | %15 | E-E-A-T signals |
| Freshness | %10 | Is it current? |
| AI discovery | %20 | Findability |
| Answer format | %15 | Direct answers |
What this test measures — and what it cannot
The page, robots.txt, llms.txt and sitemap were downloaded. Organization and author schema, outbound source links, sentences with numeric data, quotes, tables, dates, search bot access in robots.txt and snippet restrictions were checked. Your actual citation count in AI answers cannot be measured by this test.
This report is an automated first assessment. It does not guarantee appearing in AI assistants or Google; it only shows measurable technical and content signals.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between GEO and SEO?
SEO aims to rank a page high in Google’s result list. GEO aims to have your site cited as a source in answers generated by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews. They complement each other: a page that is not in the search index usually does not appear in AI answers either.
Does a high GEO score guarantee appearing in ChatGPT?
No. No tool can guarantee appearing in AI answers; assistants pick sources based on the question, competitors and their own index. The test measures signals research has linked to higher citation chances (statistics, sources, quotes, clear author and date information).
What are the quickest GEO wins?
First allow OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, Claude-SearchBot, Googlebot and Bingbot in robots.txt. Then add your social and business profiles to the organization schema (sameAs), show an author and update date on pages, and back your claims with numbers and links to reliable sources.
